Jaguar Land Rover has announced it will invest £16.3 million into an ‘Advanced Powertrain Research Project’ – which could lead to an electric Evoque_e version of its small SUV. Jaguar Land Rover will work in conjunction with British technology company and race car manufacturer Zytek Automotive to develop new hybrid and battery-electric vehicle technology. Although the collaborative research project has been named ‘Evoque_e’, neither organisation has yet confirmed if an alternatively-fuelled Evoque off-roader is in the pipeline.
Destinations, the graduate show of the Transport Design degree course at the University of Huddersfield, showed projects created by graduating students earlier this summer as part of the School of Art and Design's Graduate Show week, and also at the New Designers exhibition held in London's Business Design Centre. While a significant proportion of the course is orientated towards automotive exterior and interior design, projects also allow for a wider interpretation of transport design including boats, public transport, trucks and motorcycles as well as more conceptual approaches towards transport issues of the future. This year's graduates investigated a large range of themes and produced a variety of design solutions.
The Bentley SUV – expected to be called the Bentley Falcon – is close to being officially signed-off for production. Within a month of that report we heard that Bentley had decided to give their new SUV the Bentley Falcon‘ moniker – a clear sign VW had decided to produce the Bentley SUV – and now we learn that the EXP 9 F Concept is ready to be signed-off as a production model - albeit with substantial changes to is design. Wolfgang Schreiber, Bentley CEO, has told Automotive News that Bentley is now close to making official the decision to build the Falcon and that it will get a V8 under the bonnet, and possibly the option of a W12 too.
